Episode

Games use episodes to organize their narratives in StoryEngine. All StoryEngine entities can exist in one or more episode simultaneously, allowing for narrative progression across episodes. Games could use episodes to represent a single playable storyline, or a quest inside an open world. Some examples:

The Consulting Detectives uses an episode per investigation. Players play one episode at a time as a contained, solvable mystery.

An open world game could create an episode per quest. As actors are assigned quests, the number of episodes they participate in increases. All actor interactions are evaluated against all active episodes, creating narratively consistent, but unique and intertwined narratives across multiple episodes.
