Location
A location is a physical place in the narrative world. Actors and items exist in locations. In StoryEngine, all actors and items in the same location are simultaneously considered when deciding how the narrative evolves. Said another way, typically for two actors to interact, they must be in the same location.
Locations can be as large or as small as you want, but typically they are room sized for interior locations and street corner, plaza, or alleyway sized for exterior locations.
While StoryEngine does not directly understand exactly how locations appear, it does track connections between locations. This allows StoryEngine to understand where actors came from and where they could go next.
Facts
Facts describe a location’s characteristics. They are used by StoryEngine to understand how to represent the location in the narrative world. Typical facts include descriptions of physical appearance, as well as smells, and sounds in the location.
